Wills question:

I am executor for my (batchelor/childless) brother who has left a substantial estate (well above the tax threshold) by will to me and my sister.. Is there any way to minimize the IHT due by a deed of variation gifting some of the estate to his nephews and nieces?

You really need to seek advice from a solicitor who specialises in probate matters. This is not something you should dabble in unless you know what you are doing or you could come very unstuck with the Inland Revenue. Not something I would recommend! I'm not sure where you live but if you want to talk to soemone at my firm, feel free to contact me and I'll put you in touch with somoeone who could help.
